The Boy scouts of America have now been around for a century’s time and still their standards and practices live on. The Boy scouts goal has been and remains to train young children and men in proper citizenship, development of personal character, and independence through participating in wide ranges of activities, programs, and career-oriented training programs. These career training programs work in partnership with local organizations.

Younger members called the “Scout method” is part of the program to teach Scouting values like trust, citizenship, conservation, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities like camping, canoeing, swimming, and hiking. The Boy Scouts of America offers the program called “Learning for Life” which is a non-traditional subsidiary that provides in-school and career education. The Boy scouts of America operate traditional Scouting through units sponsored and operated by different organizations such as churches, clubs, civic centers, educational organizations, etc. Units are led by a voluntary staff that is supported by local councils using both paid professionals and also volunteers. The influence of Scouting on American society is frequently cited by both its advocates and critics. Critics have accused the Boy Scouts of America’s membership obligations to be unfitting and unfair, resulting in litigations by numerous state and federal courts. The Supreme Court has settled on a judgment that since the Boy Scouts of America are a private association, the Boy Scouts of America can set its own membership standards under the Constitutional right to freedom of association. This is still contested by parents and remains a constant ordeal that arises. The organization has managed to stay afloat thanks to volunteers participating and giving their time and effort in order to make their chapter of Boy Scouts of America work and work well. The fact that it is a private organization makes it a target for parents in the case of a child injury no matter how minor or severe.
